Small Groups for Children Kindergarten – Grade 1
And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:15 (NIV)
What is Kid’s Quest?
Kid’s Quest is a midweek, small group program for
children Pre-K through grade two. This program takes children
through the Bible, starting in the beginning of the Old
Testament and finishing at the end of the New Testament.
Each week children learn a new story and focus on a life value. The class goes through the story, using critical thinking skills to solidify the information presented. Children also complete a craft and participate in a game which reinforces the story and value for that week. Along with these activities, children have a time of large group worship through singing and reciting scripture.
Finally, leaders teach children the importance of prayer through taking prayer requests and praying out loud in the group. Each week children complete homework with their parents on the lesson taught in class that previous week. The program is designed to teach children spiritual habits that will stay with them throughout their lives. The small group leaders build relationships with each child, communicate with them each week and pray for them. Our goal is to build into children and provide them with a strong spiritual foundation so they can grow into mature followers of Christ.
Parents interested in being a Kid's Quest leader should email Laurie Gaudette or call (978)562-8550 ext. 119.
What does a Kid’s Quest small group look like?
Children meet weekly in room 111 on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30. Your child will be with the same leader and students all year. In addition to regularly attending the small group, children are expected to complete homework with the help of a parent and memorize one Bible verse per week.
How do I help my child with the homework?
It is very important to set aside a time each week to help your child with the lesson. This could be just 10 minutes every day and is a very special time to connect spiritually with your child. They will learn the story in class. AFTERWARDS, you can follow up by helping them with the homework in their workbook.
Each lesson is broken into four parts: Listen, Learn, Look and Live. In part one, “Listen”, read the story to your child and talk about it. In part two, “Learn,” ,ask them the questions and write down the answers in the spaces provided. The “Look” section of the lesson is the activity page. Your child will experience the story in a variety of ways; such as matching, counting, sequencing, drawing, or playing a simple game. This section will reinforce age-appropriate academic learning skills. Have fun! Finally, in the “Live” section, your child will learn a value to apply in their life by signing a key word. A review lesson is scheduled every third week to go over the previous lessons and will help them remember the values and verses.
It is crucial to practice the memory verse with your child throughout the week. You can practice this in the car, at the park, or during mealtimes–be creative! The key is to practice throughout the entire week, so they are not cramming this in right before they come to Kid’s Quest. Memorizing Scripture may be new to your child (and you!) and this may take some time.
With the completion of every eight lessons (with a Bible verse memorized) your child will receive that season’s special award. Please help your child achieve this goal!
We encourage you to make this a special time of growth
and to take an active role in the spiritual development
of your child.
