Job Description
Pastor/Director of Children’s Ministries

Mission
To provide biblical, servant-leadership and church-aligned vision to the ministries that serve children, from birth to Grade 5, for the purpose of preparing children to grow in Christ and reaching families in the local communities with the gospel.

Responsibilities
I. Provide servant-leadership.

  • Provide leadership for recruiting and screening lay leaders for the Children’s Ministries.
  • Equip new and existing leaders by helping to mentor, train and encourage them.
  • Provide leadership, evaluation and support to Children’s Ministry teams and supervise lay leaders to ensure that program initiatives support ministry and church vision.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy church environment for children.

II. Provide church-aligned vision.

  • Provide overall direction, goal setting, strategy, administration, evaluation and planning for the Children’s Ministries. All children’s programs must support the overall vision and mission of Grace Baptist Church.
  • Communicate regularly with Senior Pastor and church leadership regarding ministry direction and initiatives, as well as needs for prayer support and problem solving.
  • Plan annual calendar for Children’s Ministries and coordinate facility use with ministry teams.
  • Assess what is needed financially to fulfill the vision of the Children’s Ministries and manage the ministry budget.

III. Prepare children to grow in Christ.

  • Work with ministry leaders to plan, implement and direct the educational programs of the Children’s Ministries, identifying and selecting curriculum which provide a biblical foundation for young children.
  • Research and evaluate current trends in Christian educational curriculum, resources and philosophy to create innovative approaches to children’s ministry and education.
  • Develop avenues of communication with parents so that we can partner with them in their child’s spiritual development.
    Work with ministry leaders to identify and support families and children with ongoing needs.

IV. Reach local communities with the gospel.

  • Work with ministry leaders to develop effective community outreach programs with focus on children and their families.
  • Invest 25 hours a year serving the local community in a capacity that will allow you to build relationships with children and their families.
  • Research current Christian thought on reaching young, unchurched families to learn how we can create relevant, child-centered experiences to meet the needs of families in our local communities.

Accountability
I. To the Senior Pastor, for job-related responsibilities and overall vision.

II. To the elders and to the congregation, for continuing spiritual growth and example.

Qualifications:
For Grace Baptist Pastoral Staff generally:

  • Spiritual qualifications as defined in I Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9, including a personal commitment to Christ, to the Body of Christ, and to Christ's work in the world
  • Demonstrated ability to develop spiritual leadership, to train volunteers, to build teams, and to multiply and mobilize individuals in ministry
  • Ability to function as part of a team, with the pastoral staff, the elders, and other church staff and volunteers, keeping in view the whole of GBC ministry
  • Sufficient biblical/theological training, and education in the area of specialty, to be able to exercise effective pastoral leadership and to promote a ministry of excellence in a diverse congregation
  • Ability to work energetically and in a self-disciplined manner, organizing one's work independently within overall agreed-upon goals
  • Positive, cheerful, loving attitudes
