Posts in the Discussions category are meant to generate discussions concerning God in our Workplace. This is your chance to comment on questions posed and to read the comments and insights of others.
Here is our first discussion topic:
In Issues Facing Christians Today, John Stott defines work as “the expenditure of energy (manual, mental or both) in the service of others, which brings fulfillment to the worker, benefit to the community and glory to God”.
This definition extends work beyond a job or career and shows that the retiree volunteering at the local library a few hours a week, the stay at home mother spending countless hours caring for her family and the unemployed seeking the job God has for them are all working. So, whether your workplace is a fancy office, outdoors, the truck you drive, your house, the local library or a machine shop your faith can be implemented there. Whether you are well paid for what you do or not paid at all; working with the latest cutting edge technology or with your hands; going to a 9 – 5 job each day or a 24 hour a day stay at home mom; God can and will be glorified through the work you do.
Keeping in mind that your work is not limited to a paid position, ask yourself the following questions…
How do you expend energy in serving others?
What fulfillment does it bring to you?
How does it benefit the community?
How does your work glorify God?

What is a Blog???
A Blog is a Web Page where people who read the articles and comments posted on the Blog can add comments of their own. It is a Web Site where discussions can take place.
The adminsitrators of a Blog post articles or discussion questions and solicit comments from their audience.
How do I find items in this Blog???
The Blog page will always show you the more recent items posted to it first, with older items appearing as you scroll down the page.
Using the Categories list to the right, you can select particular categories of items to view.
Newsletter Articles is an archive of Workplace Articles from the GBC Newsletter
Resources will provide resource information, reviews etc...
Discussions will have discussion questions and people's responses
How do I add a comment???
At the bottom of each article or discussion you will see a comments link. Put your comments into the form and Post them.

How do you view the work that you do? Is work a gift and blessing from God or part of the curse for original sin? Many of us think of work as part of the curse or punishment. Our view of life in the Garden of Eden includes everlasting leisure, with no responsibilities as we wander through creation playing with animals and picking fruit. Then we picked the wrong fruit, paradise was lost and mankind had to start working. This view of work is seen in some of the synonyms listed for work in Webster’s Thesaurus; toil, exertion, labor and travail. But, is that what the Bible tells us?
Genesis 1:26 - 28 we read the account of God’s creation of mankind. “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:26 – 28, NASB)
Notice that verse 28 says, “God blessed them…” as we are given our ‘to do’ list. Work is a blessing of God. It is a part of our being created in God’s image. God has asked us to be His partner in filling, subduing and ruling over His creation. He has given us a creation full of potential, full of natural resources to be discovered and used. God loves us so much that he gave us work to do.
